Mental Health and Equal Opportunities Center

The Mental Health and Equal Opportunities Center of University of Nyíregyháza has previously professionally expanded the functioning of its Equal Opportunities Group for the term of 2021/2022. According to this act, from the semester of autumn 2021, it’s been working as an Independent Provider Service Unit in accordance with the applicable legislations.

The Center is aiming to help with difficulities in both the improvement of mental health and education for students and teachers too, in order to provide available possibilities in terms of individual and group consultations. Speaking of obstacles, university teachers are offering coaching. Through the involvement of external specialists, we offer opportunities for career counseling, career guidance and possibilities for competence development, meanwhile aspiring for individual suitability. Although, the number of participants for counseling-in a way which incudes involvement of a psychologist in partnership with our organisation-is limited, but not unavailable, thanks to the highly efficent cooperation of dr. Ágnes Petneházi, Head of Department.

Our full-time personal support staff, Rita Molnár and Krisztina Lutter, with the involvement of volunteer student peer supporters and in some cases specialists. With incredible generosity, they aspire for during their cooperated duties to support students with disabilities by facilating their inclusivity. Thankfully to their humble and persistent work in the complex process of academical and personal helping, their determination is an aid to experience fulfillment in everyday life for those living with difficulities. We promote our students’ sensitization, the developement of their tolerant, and ostracization-free social attitudes, and in addition providing a special sense of freedom to unfold their special skills and talents. We provide family-friendly opportunities especially for those students who are attending one of our correspondence courses or are in the midst of child-rearing. We also provide flexibility in all terms for our specially registered students, and we have created exquisite papers especially for them which they can fill during their enrollment and studies. These are based on a State legislation (87/2015.IV.9.), where they can write down their special needs to their professors. As our opportunities allow, we support our students with our well-equipped office: printing, scanning, lamination, personalised help of taking notes, digitalised possibilities are also available here to a limit. A separated student-room is being operated by us to help peer-support and the process of cooperated studying.

The workforce of Mental Health and Equal Opportunities Center is always offering a warm reception, openness and huge empathy for students interested in our help and programmes. Electronical and in person registration are also possible.

Chair of the Disabled Students Support Committee

associate professor, PhD

I had been teaching at the College of Nyíregyháza, ancestor of University of Nyíregyháza.

I took part in initiating the International Studies course. Later on, I’ve managed to achieve my PhD level degree at the University of Miskolc. I have always been an enthusiast about the assurance of equal possibilities and in connection with it-the providement of human rigths.

I overtook the teaching of law subjects at the University after the cessation of the international relationships course. Thankfully to this, I had a possibility to meet students studying at the courses of event organisation and social pedagogy. Because we are currently reframing our organisation, I am an associate professor at the Economics Studies Institute right now.

I could get into contact with significantly more students from different courses by teaching business law. As being the Head of Center, my main aim is to provide the equality of university students and the validation of human and personal rights in legislative circumstances.

Prevention and therapeutic services in the field of exercise therapy

To prevent the consequences of an incorrect lifestyle and to manage their development, I consider it important to create a movement therapy consultation for students within the framework of health development services at the University of Nyíregyháza, within the framework of which it is possible to compile an individual exercise program and, if required, to participate in individual and group exercise for preventive or therapeutic purposes...

In addition to active participation in the program, we also want to allow helping interested students online with nutrition and healthy lifestyle advice.

Professional counseling can be requested by all students whose persistent or acute locomotor or internal medicine complaints justify participation in a corrective exercise program, or who simply want to do something to maintain their health.

The content of the program:

condition assessment and movement test,

determining the fitness level,

compiling an individual exercise program,

individual and group preventive gymnastics according to needs,

individual musculoskeletal rehabilitation session,

individual and group therapeutic swimming
